The Good Image approach to your wedding: Documentary Photography

Your wedding day is just that – your wedding day. As your photographer I desire to keep it that way. My approach to wedding photography is to be as unobtrusive as possible and document the moments around me as though I were not there to influence them. That is the essence of photojournalism, and I believe that is what will create the most memorable and personal possession you will take away from your wedding day (other than your spouse!) No doubt you will want some portraits of friends and family that were with you to share the day with you, and we can appoint a time for these portraits. Together we can discuss specifics on what you are expecting from the photos from your wedding, and we can aim to bring forth results that will be aligned to your personal desire for your wedding album or photo collection.

Biography: About me….

A Passion for photography was ignited within me upon discovering and being taught to use my dad’s 35mm Nikkormat FT back in the early 1970’s. International travel and a love for people and culture were the main catalysts that propelled me toward and helped define my professional photographic career. In the early 1980’s an opportunity to relocate to England with my family brought with it travel throughout much of Europe – including England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Holland, Italy, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, and Northern Africa and provided several years to practice observing, “seeing” and capturing moments that happen around us all the time. It served to develop an eye composition and also gave me time for hands on training with the photographic and darkroom equipment of that day.

Following these early adventures in travel, I began professional photography training as an Intern for the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Medical Department, and soon enrolled at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh where I graduated two years later as an honor student with an Associates Degree in Photography. Next came a season of freelance with Pittsburgh area hospitals, Pittsburgh Lifestyles Magazine, The Pittsburgh Mime Theatre, several weddings, local newspapers and other regional work opportunities.

1n 1986, I was hired as a staff photographer at a chain of Newspapers in Central Pennsylvania (Mainline Newspapers) and worked there for 3-1/2 years before retuning to the Pittsburgh area to pursue avenues of Christian ministry as well as Photojournalism.

In 1995, I relocated overseas to serve a Christian Missions Organization (Tribes and Nations Outreach). Here, I began a 6 year stay in the Philippines with Tribes and Nations – working for the first several years as a documentary photographer and journalist for a number of publications that this ministry published. During this second opportunity to live overseas, I traveled and photographed on assignment throughout much of the Philippines, China, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Nepal. More recently, I have been privileged to travel through, and photograph in the nations of Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador while on several overseas mission trips.

Today, Good Image Photography has been created with an aim to bring you affordable documentary photography on your most treasured day. With the medium of digital photography, I wish to combine the years of experience together with personal integrity, and a genuine care for my clients to bring forth a “good image” not only of our business – but also, many, many good photographic images, that will document, define, and capture the essence of the first day of your new life together.

Sincerely,
L. Douglas Parke
